Chanel Couture Spring/Summer '11

ADVERTISEMENTS
I am always a bit lukewarm when it comes to Chanel shows. I admire the label, it is one of my favourites and of course a quilted Chanel 2.55 bag is at the top of my wish list. However, I think because it is so classic - something I often forget when I first look at the shows - it takes a while for me to warm to the garments.
With couture especially, I seem to have an expectation that I should be blown away. But really, it is a lot more to do with the details and quality, all the time spent making these unique pieces, that needs to be appreciated.
The general theme of the show made me reminisce the days where everyone used to wear skirts over trousers. Yes, 90's kid here. This wasn't one of my favourite aspects of the collection if I'm honest. Maybe the awful fashion of my school days has scarred me for life? There were, however, some very beautiful skirts. Plenty of floaty chiffons to keep me happy.

Here are some of my preferences from the show.

New Couture Love: Stephane Rolland

ADVERTISEMENTS
Somehow, my fashion radar managed to miss the talent of Stephane Rolland, despite the fact that the unavoidable Cheryl Cole has been wearing plenty of his designs, and plenty of people have documented this.
His Spring/Summer '11 Couture collection could've easily passed me by, but I caught sight of some of the gowns while looking for updates on other shows, and so I flicked through in awe.

I picked some of my favourites to post on here. Some definite Oscar worthy pieces...

and then Saab created The Goddess

ADVERTISEMENTS
Elie Saab's couture collections are one's I look forward to every season, for the intricate details and the striking beauty of the garments he creates. There's a gown for almost everyone in his collection, all with the staple Goddess effect upon the fortunate wearer.
If you have been following for a while you will now that although I never have the opportunity to wear gowns like these I do like to keep an image folder full of the ones I adore.
Anyway, enjoy...

ADVERTISEMENTS

In case it isn't obvious, I have a bit of a thing for masquerade masks. Whenever I'm out and about I'm always drawn to them, wanting to buy them yet knowing that they will serve no purpose to me. I really want someone to hold a masquerade ball, then invite me, so I can go all out. Such a mysterious and glamourous look. I loved the episode of Gossip Girl where they had the mask ball.

PS. These plaits are amazing! I wish my hair was this thick/long, though I suppose they probably are full of extensions...
